AnalogicTech enters the LED-backlit LCD TV market

Since the second half of last year, major flat-panel TV manufacturers, including Sony and Samsung, have begun to promote LED-backlit TV as a high-end product. It is predicted that in the LCD TV market in 2009, 2% to 3% of the products will be LED-backlit TVs, and the ratio will further increase to 6% in 2010. The fast-developing LED-backlit LCD TV market has attracted the attention of many IC manufacturers. AnalogicTech, which has a unique process and a comprehensive driver product line, is no exception.

Recently, AnalogicTech held a media conference in Beijing, launching seven direct and edge LED backlight driver series, and officially entered the LED-backlit LCD TV market. "The launch of these new products targeting the LED-backlit TV market demonstrates our commitment to innovative solutions that save energy and provide the best user experience," said Richard Wilson, CEO of AnalogicTech.

Currently, the main challenges in the LED backlight driver market include: high voltage design and processing, thermal and power management, and high flexibility, reliability and security. Thanks to its unique design process, AnalogicTech is confident in the performance and power consumption of the products it launches.

AnalogicTech proprietary process

The AAT24xx and AHK24xx product lines are manufactured using AnalogicTech's ModularBCD process technology, enabling high reliability, low cost, high efficiency and high power efficiency.

ModularBCD

The ModularBCD process produces single-chip, composite signals and system integrated circuits. ModularBCD integrates fully isolated 3, 5 and 12V CMOS, high speed complementary bipolar transistors and reliable 30V and above DMOS power supplies on a single chip compared to conventional ICs for linear ICs and general purpose digital CMOS fablessless processing. Device. By leveraging the advanced features of the cost-reduced pre-DRAM wafer factory, complex technologies such as epitaxial growth and high temperature diffusion are avoided, resulting in higher efficiency, smaller size and higher integration, and in a variety of portable Better management of power and extended battery life in consumer electronics such as cell phones, portable media players, tablets, laptops and digital cameras.

AnalogicTech Direct / Dot Matrix Backlighting Solutions

The current LED backlight design is mainly divided into direct/dot matrix and edge backlighting schemes. AnalogicTech prefers direct/dot matrix backlighting scheme, which helps to reduce power consumption and enhance user experience.

In direct/dot matrix backlighting applications, AnalogicTech offers LED current sinks with intelligent control that provides precise brightness based on individual portions of the image content and provides viewers with a more pure black color while improving contrast (making black more Black, brighter colors, for better, more natural viewing. For scenes with a lot of black screens, by controlling, the current of the corresponding array can be turned off, thereby reducing power consumption. AnalogicTech's dynamic LED backlights meet the increasingly stringent energy standards of large flat panel TVs.

The direct/dot matrix backlight solutions introduced this time include: AAT2400/01 and AAT2402M/S chipset and AAT240316 channel high current LED driver module.

The AAT2400/01 and AAT2402M/S chipsets produce a 16-channel high current LED driver module that supports up to 10 LEDs in a single string mode.

Each of the master and slave channels contains eight high-voltage current sinks capable of absorbing up to 100mA/channel. When using the SPI interface, up to 16 chipsets (or 256 channels) can be addressed and controlled sequentially. Each channel has 8-bit DOT error correction, 12-bit grayscale, 12-bit delay and switch control. To power the LED string, the AAT2400 and AAT2402M include a boost converter with an integrated lateral TrenchDMOS output that utilizes current sink information from each channel to ensure that the output voltage correctly biases all LED strings regardless of the LED forward voltage.

The AAT2403 is a dedicated 16-channel high current LED driver module that drives LEDs in a single string powered by an external boost or buck converter. Each current sink can absorb up to 100mA/channel.

AnalogicTech Edge Backlight Solutions

While AnalogicTech is more optimistic about the future of direct/dot matrix backlighting solutions, Mr. Richard Williams also said that edge-based backlighting solutions still have a specific market space. To this end, AnalogicTech has also launched related products to meet customer needs, including: AAT2405 (6-channel) edge-type backlight driver module, AHK2417E (8-channel) and AHK2418E (16-channel) latch LED driver module. The AAT2405 has a simple adjustable phase delay that can be configured as a 2, 3, 4 or 6 channel drive module depending on the number of LED strings per strip. The AHK2417E (8 channels) and AHK2418E (16 channels) are suitable for systems with 100mA/channel LED output current with +/-2.5% accuracy and matching.

At the same time, AnalogicTech also introduced the AAT2404 DC/DC boost controller for pairing with the AAT2405 (6-channel) edge-lit backlight driver module, integrating a high-speed, low-impedance gate drive module IC that provides up to 3.2A with an external MOSFET Output current.

Richard Williams said that AnalogicTech has accumulated experience in seamlessly integrating LED design drivers into high-end handsets, which will help them deliver innovative, high-performance and energy-efficient solutions in the LED-backlit LCD TV market. In 2010, AnalogicTech will introduce more LED-backlit LCD TV driver solutions as an important component of its market expansion and diversification strategy.
