Apple still does not give up! Transmitting joint TSMC R & D Micro LED

Although Apple has just launched the first iPhone with an OLED screen, Apple is known to have invested heavily in Micro LED technology. According to reports, Apple is joining hands with TSMC in advancing the research and development of Micro LED screen technology and it is expected that it will replace the OLED screen in the next few years.

Micro LED screens can replace some of the key features of OLED and LCD screens, further providing higher brightness, color saturation, and power efficiency. However, there have been recent reports that Apple is shrinking its Micro LED R&D team in Taiwan and that the company is facing challenges in the actual production of this technology. Earlier this year, the company announced that it would enter the pilot production stage.

It is reported that the reason why Apple is reducing the team size is only because the current research phase has been completed, and will carry out the next phase of research and development work in the United States. This also shows that Apple is working with TSMC to respond to manufacturing challenges in another way. In addition, Apple is working with TSMC to develop applications based on silicon wafers to avoid bottlenecks that limit the large-scale transmission of LED chips.

Apple is very optimistic about Micro LED technology. In 2014, it acquired LuxVue, a company specializing in this field. Like OLEDs, Micro LED may first be introduced into the Apple Watch before being applied to the iPhone. Someone once hinted that this year's Apple Watch may use this technology, but now it seems that it will not achieve this goal until next year.
