General Electric Company (GE) announced that it plans to introduce a 40-watt GE Energy Smart LED replacement lamp, which will be available at the end of this year or early next year. The luminaire is expected to consume only 9 watts of power and achieve 77% energy savings. It produces nearly the same light output as a 40 watt incandescent bulb and has a lifetime of more than 25 times.
GE said that Energy Smart LED lights are expected to surpass current products that impress consumers.
With a luminous flux of 450 lm, this new LED bulb is hailed by Energy Star as a replacement for a 40-watt incandescent bulb. At present, the luminous flux of LED bulbs on the market can reach 350 lm or less.
GE has applied for multiple patents for its LED bulbs and its LED bulbs are expected to meet ENERGY STAR standards.
GE Energy Smart LEDs use Cree's XLamp XP LEDs. GE expects its products to retail at between $40 and $50.

New lighting method:
From 2012 to 2014, incandescent bulbs will gradually be phased out:
·In January 2012, 100W incandescent bulbs will stop production;
·In January 2013, 75W incandescent bulbs will stop production;
· In January 2014, 60W and 40W incandescent bulbs will stop production.
