ON World Research Institute said that in the online survey of 1,000 adult consumers in the United States completed in April 2015, intelligent products are the most popular field of home automation products, and about one-fifth of respondents indicated that they will be in the future. According to Mareca Hatler, research director at ON World, “With the ever-increasing availability of products and the rapid decline in costs, smart lighting has quickly become the most popular smart home application, and consumers’ interest in smart LED bulbs has increased significantly. For smart home automation and control system suppliers."
The survey also showed that 29% of people are willing to pay $20 or more to purchase smart wireless LED bulbs.
By analyzing 257 smart lighting products and 20,000 consumer reviews, ON World analyzed the acceptance of smart LED bulbs by 30 times between 2012 and 2014, and the proportion of positive reviews is also increasing, including smart bulbs and dimmers. Products with ZigBee, Z-Wave and Bluetooth have the highest positive ratings. Due to the increasing demand for smart LED bulbs, ZigBee products have the fastest growth rate of more than 238% compared to 2014.
ZigBee's smart lighting products include Philips Hue and Lux, OSRAM's Lightify product line, GE Link, Cree Connected, smart bulbs from Belkin and LG, remotes from Lutron and smart homes from Quirky, SmartThings . Although ZigBee currently has the largest market share, the number of Bluetooth smart bulbs has grown even faster. In addition, LIFX and Sengled also offer WiFi smart bulbs.
Smart lighting products are increasingly integrating sensors and camera functions to provide expanded IoT applications and more networking capabilities. For example, the latest smart LED bulb products integrate audio entertainment and camera security applications such as face recognition.
It is estimated that by 2019, the global wireless intelligent lighting products will reach 400 million, of which most of them are smart LED bulbs.
