Micronas today announced the extension of its direct angle sensor product line HAL37xy, the dual-output HAR37xy. The product integrates two fully automotive-compliant, high-precision direct-angle and linear position measurement outputs in the SOIC8 package to meet the most demanding automotive and industrial applications. The HAR37xy sensor supports automotive applications with high safety requirements in accordance with ISO 26262 and supports true redundancy in small packages.

This product is ideal for direct angle measurement and linear position measurement in automotive and industrial applications, with ambient temperatures ranging from –40°C to 170°C. It can be applied to clutch position detection in the transmission, body height modules, and many other applications such as engine gas management (exhaust gas recirculation), throttle position, and turbocharger actuators. The product has non-volatile memory that is resistant to temperature changes.

Each HAR37xy has two output pieces that are glued together and have an electrical contact compensation design (stacking). They work completely independently mechanically and electronically. The two outputs are at the ends of the product to avoid short circuits between them. The advantage of the stack design is that the two Hall elements detect almost the same magnetic field, ensuring a synchronized output signal.

The redundancy scheme in the small package reduces the customer's system cost while also improving system stability because the PCB is smaller and the solder joints are less. Customers can choose single or dual when assembling. The two-way HAR37xy and its single-source HAL37xy are all SOIC8 packages, which can bring great benefits: customers who have used a single-channel version can do almost no redesign, and can use the same magnetic circuits and modules. To achieve rapid time to market. And thanks to the same position design of the dual Hall element X/Y, customers can use smaller magnets than their competitors.

HAR37xy's unique “virtual compensation” parameters help customers further save on magnet costs. This feature allows magnets up to 10 mm in length to measure linear displacement up to 40 mm, which reduces magnet size by approximately thirty percent without loss of performance. High-precision measurement of small magnets is easily achieved.

Excellent angular measurement performance depends on the ability to estimate the magnetic field strength in both the horizontal and vertical directions. The HAR37xy uses a so-called pixel chip that contains one horizontal (BZ) slice and two vertical (BX, BY) slices. The magnetic field perpendicular to the surface of the chip is captured by the horizontal piece.
