Pearson Education and Microsoft Launch HoloLens Education Partnership

Pearson Education announced that it will start new cooperation with Microsoft. Its ultimate goal is to tap the potential of mixed reality. As part of the collaboration, North American universities will begin using Microsoft’s HoloLens augmented reality heads in their courses.

In the end, Pearson hopes to solve the real challenges faced by the learning community through HoloLens, including online tutoring, nursing education, engineering, construction and surveyor training, and more. For example, YiViAn has learned that the Texas Science and Technology University Health Sciences Center and San Diego State University are part of the Pearson Mixed Reality Pilot Program, which aims to use mixed reality to solve the challenges facing nursing education.

Lorraine Bardeen, director of Microsoft Windows and HoloLens Experience, said:

“We are very pleased to work with Pearson to expand the student's curriculum and learn through the hologram of Microsoft HoloLens... Students can better understand complex systems in 3D... HoloLens enables students to experience what may be in real life. Things that will never be seen, such as historical artifacts, natural history, practical training, and connecting them to a wider world.”

Pearson said that with virtual reality, users will be immersed in a simulated world; augmented reality will superimpose digital information on the real world; mixed reality can combine virtual and physical worlds to create a new reality. Both can coexist and interact. They also plan to use HoloLens in other projects, and the company is beginning to evaluate the impact of holographic learning on the late grammar school stage.
