With the development of lighting technology, after returning home in the future, you will no longer need to turn on the chandelier, just open the lighting system of the window.
Philips subsidiary of Philips Lumiblade Dietmar Thomas said O with the development of LED (organic light emitting diode) technology, light emitting walls, windows and furniture, and the LED light bulb substituted. He said: "Imagine a window with a transparent OLED light source inside. During the day, light can shine into the room. In the evening, you don't have to turn on the chandelier or the wall light, just open the lighting system of the window."
The operating temperature of OLEDs is very low, only about 30 degrees. This means that the light source can be integrated into the furniture and even "drawn" on the wall. Thomas said: "OLED will open a new way of lighting. In the future, for example, after 5 to 10 years, you can embed the OLED in the wall. After power-on, the entire wall will shine.
Thomas said: "OLED is the first surface light source. Other light sources are point light sources, such as fires, candles, light bulbs and LEDs. This is the first time we no longer need a separate lighting system, the entire system can be embedded. â€
At present, the OLED light source has a thickness of less than 2 mm and a maximum size of 12 x 12 cm. Thomas predicts that this thickness can be reduced to less than 1 mm in the future, and the size can reach 1 square meter. He said that although the current OLED light source is still very expensive, the price will drop sharply in the future. “I expect OLEDs to enter the mass market within five years, and everyone can buy OLED systems from IKEA.â€
Lumiblade is the brand of Philips OLED lighting products, and Thomas's Lumiblade Innovation Lab is dedicated to introducing OLEDs to developers and helping them explore new uses for OLED technology. The lab has exhibited several prototype products.
OLEDs can also be used in cars in the future. Because the thickness is less than the current LED, automotive designers will be able to design larger interior spaces or more compact vehicles.
