In the past two years, more and more theme parks have tried immersive technology, which is not only a breakthrough in entertainment projects but also a new and changing experience for customers.
According to a report on the website of Bizjournals in the US, a new patent of Universal Corporation “System and Method for Generating Enhanced and Virtual Reality Images†shows that they are considering bringing immersive technology into their theme parks.
The patent mentions that this system will provide AR, VR and mixed reality experiences in playgrounds or theme parks, such as thrilling roller coasters. Each passenger plays a roller coaster with VR glasses. This pair of glasses also has the AR function, or a combination of both. Therefore, this glasses is also called VR/AR glasses.
Disney had previously applied for a patent on the "AR Projector System." It seems that the park visitors want to experience AR without having to wear anything on their face. Disney is very clear that its theme park development will be related to AR. Global's patent appears to be using both VR and AR technologies.
Universal is in the period of large-scale expansion of the brand. Super Nintendo World, which recently stood out at Universal Studios in Japan, is one of them. If they are going to use VR/AR to expand their experience, then the huge amount of global coverage like theirs is undoubtedly a powerful force in bringing immersive technology to the average consumer.
