One of the main reasons for preventing the rapid development of the electric vehicle industry is that the car charging process takes a very long time. This problem is no longer a secret of this industry. Located in TelAviv, Israel, an emerging technology company called StoreDot, their nanotechnology will hopefully change the slow charging of all electric vehicles.
Recently, the Berlin Global Startup Show was held in Berlin. StoreDot demonstrated their technical concept and claimed that it will make ultra-fast electric car rechargeable batteries a reality. StoreDot calls it FlashBattery, a battery that uses multiple layers of nanomaterials combined with unique organic compounds. Unlike other typical lithium batteries, the batteries are more environmentally friendly and cheaper to produce.
FlashBattery has a higher burn threshold, in other words, the battery is safer to use. In addition, its best point is that it only takes 5 minutes to fully charge, providing up to 300 miles (480 kilometers) of cruising range, of course, its cruising range is also determined by different brands of electric cars.
Increase capacity, fast charging or provide longer battery life. When most battery manufacturers can only focus on improving one of them, StoreDot claims that with FlashBattery, its company will be able to improve all three of these problems simultaneously.
To achieve this goal, StoreDot uses chemically synthesized organic molecules to produce a material called nanodots, which apparently has "uniquely adjustable optical and electrochemical properties" that make energy storage devices better used.
Conventional lithium batteries have a cathode composed of a metal oxide or a polyanion, which causes the battery to continue to be charged by lithium ions. This chemical reaction in the battery will result in continuous degradation of the battery, which not only limits the conductivity of the battery, but also reduces the life expectancy of the battery. In addition to this, the electrolyte used is flammable and highly volatile, which means that the user will have a safety risk when using it.
In contrast, StoreDot's FlashBattery combines metal oxides, an organic polymer that improves the anode, and an improved cathode, which allows ions to flow more quickly from the anode to the cathode. However, current technology can only be combined with proprietary separators and electrolytes to have high current and low internal resistance batteries. FlashBattery also enhances energy density, extends battery life, and makes the entire charging process faster and safer.
According to StoreDot, FlashBattery for electric vehicles is now in the “advanced stage of development†and they are also exploring more opportunities for collaboration to drive this production process. They expect FlashBattery to go on sale in the next three years. They believe that there will be more consumers moving from gasoline-driven to electric-powered vehicles.
