Diodes Introduces Headphone Detection IC AZV5001 to Ensure Headphone Detection Is Cost Effective

21ics Diodes has introduced the AZV5001 headphone detection IC for consumer electronics products that require cost and power, including mobile phones, tablets and media players. The new product integrates comparators, OR gates, and N-channel MOSFETs into a tiny package that quickly and easily detects the connection of the headset microphone to the device.

The AZV5001 utilizes two sense inputs simultaneously to determine when the headset is plugged into the device's audio jack. The left audio signal ensures that the internal comparator output is low. When the logic OR gate is connected to the socket ground, the integrated circuit output will be low, indicating that the headphones are properly connected. Both sense inputs have internal pull-up resistors to ensure that the headset does not appear to be connected when one of the signals is missing. An on-chip N-channel MOSFET turns on when no headphones are detected, muting the audio codec's microphone input.

The AZV5001 is available in a six-pin 1.2mm x 1.0mm x 0.4mm DFN1210H4-6 miniature package to help reduce board size. With a 1.8V supply voltage, the device's supply current is typically as low as 7.5μA, which not only reduces system power consumption, but also provides operating voltages as low as 1.6V.

The new products are packaged in the DFN1210H4-6 and shipped in quantities of one thousand.
