Self-shaping foam robot

Like most machines, robots are usually built for a purpose or a range of specialized uses, such as car manufacturing, bomb removal or kebabs. So how do you make a multi-purpose robot that can be used for a variety of jobs? Then make a robot that can shape itself.

This is the "foam robot", a work of the University of Pennsylvania that shapes its shape according to the needs of the eye. The "foam robot" consists of a mobile "master" platform and a number of joint modules that can be actuated by electric power. The master machine has a mission program that allows the joints to be assembled on site and sprayed with a chemical mixture that hardens and expands into a solid polyurethane foam.

Once connected by stiffened foam, the joints can be coordinated by a single piece of software. This software analyzes how the parent machine connects them and develops a set of actions. So, a robot was created. It is a bit like the God of War, but does not assume the responsibility of defending the universe.

This idea is still in its infancy, but it's not hard to imagine that this platform of free combination will do a lot, especially for people who know that they need a robot, but don't know which kind of robot they will need (such as Perform humanitarian missions or future space exploration). The Navy has been exploring this concept to some extent through 3D printing . Now we just have to wait and see.

6.35MM Power+ Signal Power Connector
